Should I Make a Wish List for a New Home?

People often make wish lists for Christmas or birthdays. But when was the last time that you made a wish list for somewhere you spend at least half of your day? A home is a very personal purchase and it should not be taken lightly. Making a list of what your “dream home” would contain will help you clarify what you and want and need out of a new home.

What should you include on your wish list? The ultimate answer to that is anything that is important to you and your family. What are things you can’t live without? What are the types of things you would love to have in your next home?

A few other considerations might be:
• Where do you want to live?
• What style of home do you want? (Single family home, condo, town house, etc)
• What type of neighborhood is important to you?
• How large of a backyard do you need? Do you want fencing?
• What school system do you want to be located in?
• Do you need to be near shopping centers or do you prefer a more country style home?
• Do you want a multi-level home or a ranch style?
• Do you want a deck or patio?
• How many bedrooms do you need?
• How many cars do you need your garage to hold?
• What type of landscaping do you want?
• What type of view would you like your home to have?
• What size and style of kitchen do you prefer?
• How large do you want the closets to be?
• What type of floors do you prefer? Hardwood, parquet, or carpeting?
• Do you need or want unique appliances in the home?

Townhomes & Villas – What’s the Same?

There are some great features of living in a townhome or villa. Here are a few things you can expect from either home choice. Many of these are included in your association dues and are an added bonus of choosing to live in a townhome or villa.

• Lawn care
• Snow removal
• Trash removal
• Applications for sod treatment
• Uniform look throughout the community

Townhomes & Villas – What’s the Difference?

While there are similarities between these two types of dwellings, there are also several features that make them distinct from each other.

Townhomes

• Attached unit to other home or homes
• Typically look identical to other homes in the community
• Homes have a shared wall but are virtually soundproof

Villas

• Detached from other home units
• Homes look similar but also have some distinct features that make them unique
• Homes do not share a wall and allow for a certain level of privacy

There are certain common features between town homes and villas that make them similar to each other. However, there are also several things that differentiate them from each other. Only you can determine which one is right for you and your family’s needs. Whatever type of dwelling you choose, you will certainly be a part of a unique community that will bring you enjoyment for years to come.
